quotations, thoughts, poetry

Dawn

A blogging friend asked where I got ideas for a daily post.
I often wonder where ideas come from for poems or creative writing.   Sometimes I really can’t understand poems.   It is my fault and not of the writer. I have gotten to know some bloggers well enough to just ask, “What are you talking about?” And they are glad to explain.

I feel my blog poems are rhymes than rather poems. I think they are pretty straight forward and short.   If I can’t say it in eight lines, I probably have nothing to say. I am going to try to give a bit of information about where I get the idea for my writings. I hope it will help you understand more about me too.

dawn

I found this beautiful picture and it reminded me of dawn. I do live near a river and have seen low fog over it. I thought of a boat slowly and silently moving down the river and of someone fishing or going hunting. And I thought of the early pioneers who had to use a river for transportation and to get food. It must have been very difficult to provide for a family and keep them safe. Then I thought it is still difficult today to have a family and work all day to provide for them. The head of the house whether it be man or woman leave early in the morning. All is well. The partner is at home awaiting the return. Plans are made. But everyday someone does not return from work. Something happens and the plans are gone.

So what started out as settlers and Indians changed to all people. I don’t know if you would have read it that way if I had not explained a bit.

He rose before dawn
Shh stay he told her
She turned with a yawn

He eased into the canoe
Be safe she whispered
He was soon out of view

He hunted for game
All for you he smiled
She hummed did the same

He felt the sharp dart
No cried to his love
She put hand to her heart

They came before dawn
No cried to her love
And then they were gone

  1. I have a simple mind too, and I do not really understand most of the poems except of course those I have written. For the simple mind, and I like simple poems/rhythm. This is a good one, and I see the flow of emotion rather than the words. I like your voice, there is a child in it.

    • Hi kc!
Thank you for coming to my other blog. :)
Your mind is certainly not simple!! I always find your poems very refreshing and easy to read. You give a lot with just a few words.

I think we all write from the heart. But our heart may feel different things at different times.

  2. lovely poem..thank you so much for the explanation. You are so very lucky to live near a river. and inspiration comes from the beauty all around

  3. She was a poet
And we all knew it. :-)

  4. Beautiful poem! And an explanation is a great idea and also the picture it was based on too, really helps set the mood! Although I don’t think I’ve ever struggled to understand any of yours before! But I suppose it would allow more freedom to write it in a different way if there is some info. I shall be doing that with my next poem, one I posted on a writers website some time ago and I think the explanation helped readers understand it much better. I try to avoid that as much as I can, as like you I have often been left completely confused by some poetry, even the beautiful ones! :D

    • Thank you. Even if one person finds it useful, I am happy.
I don’t think it is something everybody would want to do.

I realize or think that some writers are really deep and their feelings and words so intense that any explanation would ruin the mood or meaning. :(

Me…I’m in it for the fun and I like the chit chat in the comments. Makes us seem a little more human. :)

  5. Beautiful poem, and the image to me represents the peace and quiet before the Sun dawns! Thanks for sharing, and also thanks for visiting me! That a lovely blessing…thanks and God bless!

    yup..it is simple and straight forward… :)
but simple as that only one with good talent can write.. that can describe and make me feel my present there…

    • Someday I will surprise you and write something nobody can understand and receive tons of comments about how wonderful the poem is. lol

hehehe very true…..sometimes commentators are simply trying to please us or they just lost of words to say..so it is safer to just give compliments instead..

ya why not..I can learn something new then… :)
