Walk Down Country Roads

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

You promised to return
You pledged and gave your vow
Said you would hurry back
Laughed smiled said ciao

The days turned into months
The months spun into years
You lived the merry life
I shed raw cold tears

Your word of honor broken
I no longer wait
I found and love another
When you missed our wedding date

Almost heaven West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains Shenandoah River
Life is old there older than the trees
Younger than the mountains growing like a breeze

Country Roads take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia mountain momma
Take me home Country Roads

All my memories gather round her
Miner’s lady stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine tear drop in my eye

Country Roads take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia mountain momma
Take me home Country Roads

I hear her voice
In the mornin’ hours she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And driving’ down the road
I get the feelin’ that
I should have been home
Yesterday yesterday

Country Roads take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia mountain momma
Take me home Country Roads

RestlessJo had a most interesting walk today.

  1. Thank you so much for the link, Esther, and for one of my favourite Denver songs. I have always loved this. Your photo gallery is beautiful too. 🙂 Have a happy week!

  2. Ok, I love that song and have been known to sing it aloud in the car when I am driving. Good on her for not waiting around.

  5. Thank you so much for this song, beautifully sung and new to me. We have just finished planning and booking a road trip from Atlanta to Washington through the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley for next May. I shall play this lots of times and have it in my head as we drive! 🙂
